3rd TU Dortmund University Lecture in Jewish Studies and Politics

The Jewish Bible or “Old Testament” has played a central role in the creation of national identities. This lecture explores how the ancient biblical authors invented the very concept of nationhood or peoplehood, and how this concept diverges on crucial points from the political programs of nationalism.
Jacob L. Wright is Professor of Hebrew Bible at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. Most recently, he is the author of the prize-winning Why the Bible Began (Cambridge University Press, 2023). He was awarded with the Gambrinus Fellowship 2023 and serves as a visiting Professor at the Department of Humanities and Theology, TU Dortmund University. Further information.
