"Football already in Ancient Rome!"
Probably the most famous hoax in the history of German-language science is an article about soccer in antiquity.
The success of the hoax proves it: Even for contemporary scholars, a past without soccer seems unthinkable. The all-time and all-round topicality of "Football in Art, Culture and Religion" - this was the subject of an interdisciplinary lecture series at the TU Dortmund University in the winter term 2018/19. For where better to do justice to the universality of soccer than at a university in the heart of the Ruhr region?
